Spring Rally!

Saturday April 15th 2023

Lawrie Alexander (530-798-1993), Rallymaster

3356 Coach Lane, Cameron Park, CA

Obviously, your driving an MG will be preferable but certainly not mandatory. All SVMGCC members and their cars will be welcome; maximum member participation is more important to your Rallymaster!

If you want to participate but have no-one to ride with you, let me know prior to the event. I will attempt to pair up any folks who would otherwise be on their own.

If the weather promises to be too bad for an enjoyable drive, the rally will be re-scheduled. Check this page on our website a few days prior to the 15th.

I do hope you will plan to participate in this event, so a quick email (Lawrie@Britcars.com) to let me know will be much appreciated. That way, I will know how many rally packets to prepare, and Jane will know how many lunches to plan for. If you have any questions about this rally, send me an email or phone or text me at 530-798-1993.

I'm looking forward to a really good turnout. This Spring Rally will be at least as much fun as the Poker Rally we enjoyed in April, 2020!

Also please remember to bring a clipboard or other firm writing surface and a pen or pencil!

You will gather between 9:45 and 10:00 at McDonald’s, 3356 Coach Lane, Cameron Park. Traveling towards Lake Tahoe on Hwy. 50, take exit 35 (Cameron Park Drive), turn right at the end of the ramp, turn right at the next light. Look for McDonald’s on your left. Check in with Rallymaster Lawrie by the car with the British flag. You will be assigned a Start Time, based on when you arrive at McDonald’s.

The Rally will start in Cameron Park, traverse winding foothill roads and end up at the Alexander's home where you will enjoy a (no-charge) meal of Jane's home-made Chili with cornbread and salad. Water and soft drinks will be supplied; bring your own drinks if you prefer something stronger.

Please join your fellow club members on this, the first driving event of 2023. The planned date for this Rally is Saturday, April 15th. We hope to have typical Spring weather that day, and it will be a very pretty drive on some delightful "MG" roads. Here follows a description of what to expect:

Cars will leave at 1 minute intervals, with the first car out at 10:15. Instruction packets will be handed out 5 minutes before your start time. I anticipate the route will be about a 60-mile drive, taking 2 to 2-1/2 hours. Make sure your car has sufficient gas. There are several gas stations near the Start. There will be at least one restroom stop along the route during the rally.

On the Rally, you will be tasked with observing road names and local features and answering questions based on your observations. There will also be a couple of puzzles to for you solve.

It is important that you have someone with you as your navigator. Their job will be to follow the route directions, help answer the questions, and help solve the puzzles. It will be impossible – and dangerous – to try to drive the event on your own, unless you have no interest in the competitive aspect and just want to go for a fun drive. Even then, reading and following the directions will be a challenge.

There will be awards for the first, second and third teams, based on their total score on the questions and puzzles.
